new rear crossmember
several patches of rust on the chassis
new shocks
engine needs a good service
front swivel seals
and of course the repainting!
Here's the vehicle just after I acquired it (it had just rained)
The first things to be removed were the rear door (which was pretty rotten, so a new one was obtained), then all the window glass, rear lights, headlining, and hard top. The garage had recently been re-roofed, so the beams were a) strong enough, and b) just the right height for getting the hard top out of the way!
Next to be removed were the hard top sides, seats, and seat base.
I wanted to fit an old Nato tow-hitch to the new rear crossmember, so this involved removing part of the new crossmember, re-drilling two holes, strengthening them and welding a bracing plate behind.
This is the new crossmember with a section removed from the rear. I removed the existing bracing - it proved quite difficult to get at.
