Anyway, back to the rebuild. I finally decided to remove the bulkhead completely; it was only being held in place by the nearside bolt. All the cardboard boxes at the back contain all the bits I have taken off so far).
I thought that by removing the bulkhead this would give me a bit more room to start replacing the bulkhead outriggers, and it would also be easier to do the footwell repairs on the bulkhead itself. Anyone ever taken off a bulkhead on their own before? It's heavy! I think I will remove the steering wheel before replacing it, that should make it a bit lighter! I'm a bit reluctant to pull the steering wheel off its shaft and drill out the shear bolts, so hopefully I'll be able to remove the wheel and column as a unit.
Before starting the outrigger removal, I made up a jig using some timber I had lying around. The jig will swing out of the way so that I can cut off the bulkhead outrigger, and then swing it back to enable me to position the new outrigger in the right place.
Meanwhile, I was still repainting sundry pieces. Here is the petrol tank with its first (half) coat of Unidox primer. I have replaced the sender unit, because I noticed that when I filled up with petrol the gauge only registered just above half.
